Jay-Z got to his final concert at the city’s newest arena by taking one of New York’s oldest rides: the R train.
The Bed-Stuy-born star surprised city straphangers Saturday when he walked into the Canal Street station at around 6 p.m.
Escorted by plainclothes police officers and his own security, Hova didn’t seem to pay for the ride and attracted a loud band of followers that made him look like the Pied Piper, a source who followed Jay-Z told the Daily News.
On the platform, the rapper waited for one train to pass before getting onto the Brooklyn-bound R.
On the commute, Jay was surrounded by photo-snapping fans and even struck up small talk sitting by an older woman, who looked happy to see him.
When he got to Atlantic Ave., Jay-Z breezed through the turnstiles, crossed a red light, and temporarily stopped traffic.
Crowds lining up for the show started screaming the minute they saw him, a source said.
