Today Kid Cudi announced over Twitter his outrage with Universal about their handling of WZRD as an indie side project. Having only shipped very few physical copies and done very little promo, Cudi reacts and announces that his next album will be another WZRD album with Dot Da Genius and that ‘Man on the Moon 3′ will have to wait until at least 2014. Universal Republic cannot be happy about that, which is the goal in the first place here.

In his own words: “Im lettin Universal Republic have it, fuck it. What they gon’ do, spank me?? hahahaha”.

She currently lives in a condo in L.A., where she moved for the weather but also to escape “some bad memories.” Though she declines to divulge much about her personal life, she readily admits to snuggling up in hotel beds, unwinding after a performance by watching Forensic Files and Judge Judy. Minaj insists she’s terrible at small talk and never goes out much, except for the occasional foray to a favorite restaurant. “I went to Negril the other night, and I brought, like, ten of the fans who were waiting outside with me, and bought them all food!”

Now Minaj is expected to be a glamour girl every day. Her ensembles—“They’re costumes, not outfits”—are often custom-made or imported from Japan, where little-known designers like Shojono Tomo supply items like the nutty plastic apron Minaj wore during New York Fashion Week last September. (If she has yet to market her distinctive naughty–baby doll look, Minaj has already entered the world of cosmetics, launching a nail-polish collaboration with OPI and becoming a 2012 M.A.C. Viva Glam spokesperson.) In her downtime, she is far from label-obsessed. “If I can combine designer things with other things, I’m a happy camper.” Not so with accessories. At one time she was spending $50,000 a month on “Giuseppe, Versace, YSL, and Fendi shoes. And I bought tons of Vuitton bags. When you’re a young girl from Queens, you’re going to stock up on those bags.”

Still, Minaj is adamant that her legacy will not be one of a free-spending, know-nothing celebrity. She’s planning “an enormous foundation to nurture girls. The Nicki Minaj girl is a fun, artsy girl who can become a fierce force to be reckoned with on Wall Street! They hang on my every word, so I tell them, go to school, be ambitious. The worst position is to be financially dependent on the man.” And what of that alternate Nicki, serving her lord and master a martini by the pool? The fuchsia waves shake furiously. “I could never be that girl!”

Check out excerpts from Nicki Minaj’s interview for Paper magazines Spring Issue.

SD: I saw you sitting front row next to Anna Wintour at Fashion Week. Genius! Such a fabulous couple. What was going through your thoughts?
NM: Yes! I was screaming out loud inside my head. Me sitting next to the Queen of Vogue! It was such a strange experience. I felt like I was dreaming. And I thought she would be snobby or something. But she was so incredibly sweet to me.

SD: Who are your biggest style icons?
NM: Grace Jones definitely. So amazing. And Cyndi Lauper, I loved her right from when I was a little girl. And Janet Jackson of course. And Boy George. I always loved the way he dressed, and his music too.

SD: Do you have time to watch trash TV?
NM: Of course! I love Mob Wives.

    SD: Me too!
NM: I love Big Ang! And I love the way those girls talk to each other: “Don’t YOU be coming at ME!!!” I love every freakin’ moment. And I watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Beverly Hills. Taylor and Adrienne and the girls.

It was politics as usual for Jay-Z as he performed at Carnegie Hall in NYC on Monday night bringing out Nas and Alicia Keys and performing hits from his extensive catalog.  Proceeds from some of the ticket sales actually went to his Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation with the United Way of New York.

GQ recently had the opportunity to sit down with Pharrell Williams to discuss a bevy of topics. From his role as music consultant at the Academy Awards alongside personal hero Hans Zimmer to his Billionaire Boys Club spinoff for women, everything reads like an open book. The entire conversation with Pharrell Williams can be read at GQ while choice excerpts appear below.

GQ: You and Hans Zimmer are the music consultants for the Oscars. What does that job entail?
Pharrell: We have to reinterpret some of the music for the nominees. We have to do other music as well that is at times new and original and at others borrowing from movie scenes.

GQ: The Academy producers could have hired some stiffs for this, but they picked you two for some much-needed variety. What will you guys do to put your stamp on it?
Pharrell: Well I can’t give but so much away. Because Hans and I have tried to keep it under wraps so that there’s literally no expectation and people are excited about the stuff we’re cooking. We’re thinking beyond the usual standards.

GQ: You worked with Hans on 2010′s Despicable Me. He’s a huge deal in the film and music world. What’s it like to hang and work with him again?
Pharrell: It’s an honor for me because I get to be mentored, creative, and credited for learning under the auspices of somebody like him. I’m always honored when he takes my direction and to have direction come from him. It’s really been this interesting collaborative thing. But for me, secretly, it’s still like school and I love it.

GQ: On Rick Ross’ Rich Forever mixtape you rap, “Black boy scoring his life/ I’m scoring the Oscars.” How excited are you for this opportunity—especially since you’re still essentially a music nerd from Virginia who made it big.
Pharrell: I’m just very thankful. And I say that a lot because that’s the most important message. I answer questions the best I can. But most of the answers usually feel the same. And that’s just me being very appreciative of the opportunity, because, like you said, I’m from Virginia Beach, VA. I’m glad that I can exhibit what we can do.

GQ: Academy rules won’t allow you to say what your current favorites are, but what are some of your choice Hans Zimmer-scored movies? He’s done plenty and won an Oscar for The Lion King.
Pharrell: The Dark Knight music was genius! I mean, Gladiator was great. Pirates [of the Caribbean] was great. But Dark Knight? That was, like, a whole different level of…

The Observer has learned that Kanye West, the multi-platinum rapper and Twitter super-user recently sent representatives to the Persian Gulf region to scout locations for a short film. The project, which will take a form much like his 30-minute “Runaway”—a hybrid art film and music video starring model Selita E. Banks that premiered on MTV in October, 2010—is to be filmed in March.

Sources tell The Observer that Mr. West sent members of his team to meet with film companies and government officials based out of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Doha Qatar to explore the idea of a production. A number of local municipal officials and film companies are said to be engaged in what was characterized as a heated bidding war for the contracts involved in bringing Mr. West’s vision to life.

“In Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Doha all of the film initiatives are government controlled,” one source involved in the talks explained. “A bidding war is going on between various government entities and private investors to fund the film. There’s pretty intense rivalry here between Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar. They all want to claim the film as their own and take credit for generating the publicity.”

Part of the reason for the excitement? The story—plot details of which were not divulged by one source “out of respect for Kanye’s ambition”—was conceived by the rapper explicitly to take place in the Gulf. He is said to have fallen in love with the region after a concert performance last year in Abu Dhabi.

Rumor has it that Diddy will be launching his own Television network called Revolt this year on 12/12/12 with Comcast with help from former MTV programming chief Andy Schuon.  Here are some more details:

Sean Combs, the entertainment impresario known as Diddy, is planning to launch a music-themed cable network, according to three sources with knowledge of his plans. The channel is called Revolt and is aiming to launch at the end of the year–12/12/12, to be specific.

Sources with knowledge of the Revolt playbook describe it as a music and music news channel with an urban skew. One described it as the old days of MTV, but for more of the African American audience. The venture is well funded, say the sources.

Former MTV programming chief Andy Schuon is involved with Revolt, according to sources. In 2006, Schuon headed up a music channel called International Music Feed (IMF), which was acquired by Ovation TV before being discontinued.

Comcast will provide distribution as part of its commitment to the FCC to help launch minority owned networks. In April, Comcast began soliciting proposals for “independent channels,” according to its press materials. It plans to launch 10 over the next eight years, including eight Hispanic or African American owned channels, and began accepting proposals for the first three last spring.

The rapper is now based in London and has been working on a fashion line as well as a new album with artists on his record label.

Earlier this month he also had a meeting with the software team behind Angry Birds – the addictive app that even David Cameron plays to pass the time.

A source said: “Kanye met the Angry Birds creators at a late-night meeting in the capital.

“It was his idea. They brainstormed ideas and talked about ways they could work together.”

Last year Angry Birds firm Rovio turned down a buyout offer said to be worth more than £1billion, so it’s no surprise that Kanye wants to get involved.

Now, according to his tweets, all he needs is “managers, doctors, scientists, teachers, car designers, lawyers and bankers”.

According to singer Marsha Ambrosius, who confirmed her own appearance on the album, she was also joined in the studio by Frank Ocean and Jay Electronica. The artist confirmed the news via Twitter, writing, “In the studio with Frank Ocean, Big Sean, Pusha T, Manny Fresh. Kanye West is on the way!!! I’m having fun today.”

Pusha T also confirmed that Hitboy would be offering some production, with a tweet that read, “Learned in London: NOBU is always 500+ for dinner, @HitBoy_SC is the future, I’m a car hoe, Frank Ocean already won, and G.O.O.D. can’t lose!”

The G.O.O.D. Music album is expected to hit in the spring of this year.
