Michael Bloomberg said this about Jay-Z in the magazine.
Jay Z embodies so much of what makes New York New York. A kid from a tough neighborhood who grows up in public housing, overcomes lots of bad influences on the street, never lets go of his dream, makes it to the top — and then keeps going, pursuing new outlets for his creativity and ambition. When no one would sign him to a record contract, he created his own label and built a music empire — before going on to design clothing lines, open sports bars and, most recently, represent professional athletes. He’s an artist-entrepreneur who stands at the center of culture and commerce in 21st century America, and his influence stretches across races, religions and regions. He’s never forgotten his roots — “Empire State of Mind” was a love song to our city — and as a co-owner of the NBA Nets, he helped bring a major league sports team back to Brooklyn, not far from his old neighborhood. In nearly everything he’s tried, he’s found success. (He even put a ring on Beyoncé.) And in doing so, he’s proved that the American Dream is alive and well.

Famed for his outrageously provocative creations, American designer Jeremy Scott beefs up his collaborative endeavors through a capsule collection with New Era. Derived from an eclectic mix of influences that were standout trends during last September’s NYFW, the audacious visionary aims to provide his own commentary to the heritage brand’s iconic 59FIFTY and 9FIFTY Snapback silhouettes. Materials include faux ostrich, snake and crocodile skin, as well as faux leather and canvas. Each design will also feature an intricate embroidery with a unique lining and original New Era branding. The six piece, limited edition collection of headwear will be available starting May 20 at selected boutiques including Opening Ceremony, Selfridges, colette, The Good Will Out and select New Era flagship stores.

The hype continues to build, as Daft Punk have put forth episode 4 of their Random Access Memories collaborators series featuring Pharrell Williams. The do-it-all Virginia native takes being descriptive to an entirely new level, recalling the creation of “Get Lucky” (where he may or may not have been drugged by the robots) and hearing the completed track for the very first time.
When I heard “Get Lucky,” it just reminded me of like, some kind of exotic island, not sure if it was on this planet or not, but it just felt like a place where it was forever four in the morning because you’re on an island you can sort of see the sun rising and the sky is like that peachy color.
He goes on to talk about how he might listen to the album when it comes out, and even speaks to point of drugs and their effect, or lack their of, needed to enjoy this LP.
You don’t need MDMA for this music, cause the music is so incredibly vivid. People lost respect for the groove. Everything is just so synthetic that it’s just missing the gut.
Watch the clip below, which must have been recently edited as it includes footage from this camera phone Coachella video.

“We have learned recently that Beyoncé has been named the face of H&M’s new summer collection. The campaign is accompanied by photography from Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin of the pop icon in Bahamas. Coinciding with today’s kick off of her The Mrs. Carter Show world tour in Belgrade, Serbia, the Swedish retail-clothing company has now unveiled some more images that you can check out above.”
